I want to talk to you about measuring things. So today's title of the blog
says if you don't measure it, you can't improve it.
What I mean by that is that if you look at serious big companies, they measure everything. Serious companies, they measure everything, they know all the numbers. I remember one person saying to me if you don't know your numbers, you don't know your business. And I see it so often that in network marketing, people just don't measure things.
People just don't know their numbers in their business. If I went to a local Tesco, and I asked them how many cans of baked beans have you sold last week? They could tell me exact number. But when I'm speaking to a network marketing leaders, very often I say, “Well, how many people do you have coming to the conference?” “I don't know.” “How many new recruits joined your team last month?” “I don't know.” “How much prospecting activity is happening within your team?” “I don't know.” Because most people just don't track the numbers. They just don't follow the numbers, they don't record the numbers, they don't look at all the numbers in their business. And if you don't measure it, you can't improve it.
One great example is weight loss. If you want to start losing weight, one of the best way to do it is measure your weight every single day because if you don't measure your weight every single day, then it's so easy to start piling on weight, because you just in denial. You just go, “Oh, probably my weight is the same, probably is the same.” And it's actually going up and up and up and up, but you're not measuring it. So it's the same as sticking your head in the sand. It’s like, I don't know, I don't see, so it doesn't bother me, but if you start measuring your weight every morning, then you will start seeing how it's going up and then you'll do something about it.
Well same in your business. If you measure the numbers in your business, if you constantly track like how many people have I prospected this week, how many presentations have I done this month? How much activity have I done, how many recruits have I brought into the business, how many products have I sold? And same numbers for your team, etcetera. If you start tracking those numbers, you'll very quickly be very aware where your business is. Is it growing, is it going down? Is it ploughing, what is going on with your business? And when you know those numbers, now you can manage them.
Now you can improve them because if you know that, oh, sales has gone down or our recruiting has gone down, then you can create campaigns, you can create promotions, you can create activity in order to fix that, in order to increase those numbers, in order to increase those parts of your business and this way, you get back on track. So that's my wish for you today is that you'd start tracking your numbers, you start first of all by tracking your own activity numbers, and then also by tracking your team number so you know exactly what is happening in your business and how to take it to the next level.
