You gain the power of the temptation you resist
So
this blog, I've called it, you gain the power of the temptation you resist.
Now, this is an idea that is, for me at least, it's very, very powerful idea. So
if you think about it, you are bombarded with temptations all the time. It
could be temptation to eat junk food, it could be temptation to be lazy and not
do the work and instead, what some telly especially if you're a home based
business owner. Oh, let me go and make a cup of tea instead of making a call. And those of you who've been through it, you know what I'm talking
about, I've been for a lot of it.
These temptations are always out there.
And the easiest thing to do of course, is to give in to the temptation and not
do the work and not try hard enough and not make that thing that pushes you out
of comfort zone and not make that do the thing that scares you, and so on and
so on. That's the easiest thing to do is to give in to that temptation.
However, what I found is that if you do resist the temptation, then what it
does, you almost gain the power of it. So there used to be a movie long, long
time ago, I was still a kid, there was a TV series called Highlander about
these immortal people who would chop each other's head off and gain that
person's power. So like the strap line would go, “There can only be one in the
end.” So they would keep killing each other and getting each other's power. I
know it's a bit off the topic, but I think it works exactly the same way with
your temptations.
If you resist the temptation, and you still do the work, you
still do the discipline, you still stick to the plan, you gain the power of
that temptation. One, next time that temptation is not as strong anymore and
two you now are proud of yourself, that, “Oh I’ve battled that temptation, I
win against this temptation, and I still did the work. I was scared to do this
one thing, and I could have given to the temptation of being scared, but I
overcame and I did it anyway, and now have gained the power of that it doesn't
scare me anymore. You know, this thing felt out of comfort zone for me to do
that thing but because I did it, now it's no longer out of my comfort zone. I
feel comfortable doing that.”
Basically, the more of these temptations that you resist, the stronger you
become because you gain the power of those temptations, the power that those
temptations had over you, now you have the power against them and if you look
at that in that way, it becomes incredibly empowering. Every day, you can resist
the temptation you get, “Oh I’m being tempted, to stop at McDonald's, instead
of go home and cook my dinner, I'm being tempted not to make that call.
And
instead just play on Facebook, you know, and watch dancing cats, but I'm doing
the call Anyway,” you know what I mean. And if you do those little disciplines,
it doesn't have to start a huge like, all day long. I need to quit smoking and
I've been smoking for 15 years, it's going to be too difficult. So you start
with small disciplines, you start with small temptations and you conquer them,
then you can go to a bit bigger one, beat that one, then you go to a bit bigger
temptation, beat that one until you can totally transform your life by
conquering what some of the biggest temptations in your life, you know what I
mean and gaining their power.
