Why it’s worth to learn MANAGING EMOTIONS

Posted by Gediminas Grinevicius on Sunday, February 23, 2020 Under: Personal Development

The title of this is why it's worth to learn managing emotions. So network marketing is an emotional business and you will experience a lot of emotions in this business, ups and downs and good days and bad days, stressful experiences and happy experiences, and so on.

For me, today was a bit of a stressful experience. So we've learned GoPro, this amazing strategy of using the watch parties. So one person goes live, does the presentation for example and then the whole team shares that video as a watch party and it's all nice and dandy. In theory that is.

So yesterday I practiced, I'm not like a random person, so yesterday I sat down practiced, tested my software, all works perfectly fine on zoom, sharing your slides, doing everything, you wish your slides lovely with my wife Rita, we tested it out, check sound was perfect, slideshow are perfect, everything awesome.

We scheduled it for nine o'clock this evening for everybody to jump on etcetera. So I've got like 100 people waiting for me to go live and the zoom gems would not work, like it's just loading, loading and loading and it is frustrating. You get to a point where you really want to smash something up, but that's where managing emotions comes in.

Well, I could have just went, “You know what, sought it, just cancel the thing, and just we're not going to do it today.” But as a leader and as what one of my mentors in business always says, she says, “As a leader, it's too big of a luxury to have a bad day. As the leader, you can't afford to have bad days.” It doesn't mean that you will never have a bad day, but you should never show to other people that you’re having a bad day. Like, not in a like sort of a fake way where you can show your emotions and you can share with people. That's not the point, but never show to people that, “Ah, I’m just pissed off. F it, F it, F it.” Because it doesn't help you at all ever.

There will be a lot of experiences on your journey to success where you will experience some really bad stuff, sometimes some nasty stuff, sometimes some horrible stuff where some people might steal from you, some people might cheat you, some people might do loads of different things, but you can never allow that thing to stop you from succeeding. Even today, or this morning, I shared a little post where I wrote a little phrase that so many people let small problems cheat them out of big opportunities.

Sometimes we have this incredible opportunity in front of us, but we let little small problems, little small challenges to stop us on our way to success. And for me, I just always remind myself that hey, if you give up on this little problem, is that what your dreams are worth? Is that what your future is worth? This little problem, that's all it takes to stop you from going for success? Like it doesn't make any sense, but you have to manage your disappointment.

So, I'm trying to get the Zoom working, I'm trying to get it working, my team members messaging like, “Hey, are you going live? What's happening? We are all waiting.” And I’m like, “Hey guys, give me a minute.” So I’m trying to get the zoom working and it just wouldn't work. I shut down the browser, refresh the browser, I restart my computer all over again. I tried to go again, and it would just not work. So I just go, “Okay, something else, I need to use another software that I haven't practiced last night.”

So I jump on the other software. I go live on that one, like 10, 15 minutes later. So my team members are the Saints for waiting, being patient with me. Anyway, I go live on that. I start talking, I've got my slides up and I check on my phone. So I'm trying to talk to do the live and at the same time, I'm trying to think is this working? Is this happening? So I check on the my phone and where it's supposed to be my slides. It's black. It’s not showing any slides, and I’m like, “Oh my God. Like Yeah, just that's just exactly what I wanted.”

Anyway, in the end, I figured it out that I have to come out of the full screen and the slides will be visible. And we did manage to do the first live, like the first pancake, maybe it wasn't perfect, but it's done. But it's done, done is better than perfect when it comes to your business. Done is better than perfect when it comes to you reaching your dreams. So many people wait to be perfect. So many people wait to have it done ideally. Just do it. Just do it. I have an accent. I'm not even an English person, but I just went and done it. I had challenges with software. Who cares? I still done it. So in the end, yeah, I'll get better next time and the next time even better and the next time even better, and I will improve on that, but I would never wait until I'm perfect.

Too many people are just waiting and waiting and waiting, stopping themselves because what would somebody think of me and what if I mess up and what if I say wrong things? Who cares? Nobody gives a crap. Even if you make mistakes, even if you say the wrong thing, even if you have some hiccups, just do it, so manage your emotions means not to become a robot, a person that doesn't have any feelings or any emotions, but what it means is that you choose how to react.

The word responsible is used very often like, being responsible for different things, etcetera, but actually, if you break that word down, it actually breaks down response able, it means able to respond. So when you are responsible leader, then you are able to respond in a correct way to any situation. You're able respond in a diplomatic way to any situation, you are able to respond in a calm way to any situation because as a leader, you are the rock that's holding this together, you're the rock that your team is looking up to, you're the rock that your family's looking up to. So if you become all over the place, like a headless chicken and you start screaming at people and you start being stressed out of your head, and everybody sees that, that is not always the most trustworthy role model and example.

Sometimes just take a deep breath, it's not a big deal, even if you do mess up, even if there are some challenges, in the big perspective, in the long run, like if you were to build this business for the next 50 years, and you would leave it as an inheritance for your children, if you were to look at that distance of time, a little challenge today, how much difference does it make over the course of 50 years? No difference. What if somebody quits your business today? One person? How much difference will that make to your business over 50 years? Not much difference.

What if a product is out of stock or a delivery came in and the delivery guy was playing football with your box? I know it's not nice, but how much difference does it make over the course of 50 years, you build a business like that one delivery? Makes no freaking difference, does it? If you think long term, but if you only see what's in front of your face, if you only see that, “Ah, this is horrible.” Then it's so easy to get frustrated, to get angry, to get pissed off, screaming at people, to get all of this, it's so easy. It's so easy to let it overwhelm you, control you, piss you off, but long term, makes no difference.

All of those things are meaningless. It doesn't make any difference. For me, I don't give a crap about those little things. Because I'm thinking how can I impact 150,000 people in my team. Like I have a goal, I wish I could show you, maybe I can show you. One of my things on my goal is 150 K, 150 K. That’s my goal to get 150,000 people in my team. I want to impact 150,000 people. That's my goal. So if I want to impact 150,000 people, how much difference does it make if a product is out of stock? How much difference does it make if you know my catalogue came in wrinkled? Makes no difference because my mission is much bigger than any obstacles that could ever stop me, that could ever prevent me from keep changing lives.
