What to say to a person who wants to make money but doesn’t want to so the work?
I want to talk about what to do with a person who wants to make the money in
your business but doesn't want to do the work.
And once in a while you're going
to get those people who they do want to make money, but they just don't want to
do the work. And so what can we do with that type of person because you know
it's not going to happen. If somebody is not going to do the work, they're not
going to make the money. So what can you do?
Well,
my favourite way of handling that type of person is a strategy that I learned
from my mentor, Eric Wore, and that's a three question close that he calls. So
the first question is, you ask a person, “Hey, look, how much money would you
like to be making in this business for it to be worth your time? So how much do
you have to be making minimum for this to be even worth your time, monthly
figure?” You don't suggest, you let the person answer so whether it's 500 1000
2000 5000, whatever it is. They say the number.
Second
question you ask them, “How many hours a week would you be prepared to invest
to develop that type of passive income?” And again, they give you amount of
hours. And finally, question number three, you ask them, “How many months would
you be prepared to put in that many hours in order to develop that type of
income?”
Now, the person who doesn't want to do the work, usually they'll give
you strange numbers, they'll give you a lot of money, but they will give you
very little time or very little patience that they have to develop that income.
And this is then your chance to say, “Hey, look, you said you want to make 1000
pounds a month, but you only prepared to put in three hours a week for only
three months. That’s unrealistic, it's not going to happen. You either have to
reduce the amount of money that you want to be making, or you have to increase
the amount of hours that you're going to be putting into this business.”
And
when you approach it this way, it doesn't look like you're just forcing them to
do the work. You telling them that look, I'm here to help you, I want to help
you, but the numbers don't match, you either have to make less money, or you
have to put in more work. Otherwise, it's not gonna work. And when we explain
it in that way, they can be angry at you for not making the money later,
because you tell them, “Hey, look, if you're going to join my business and not
put in the time, you're not going to make the money anyway.
So it's up to you
in order to decide what you want to do. And if that person is already in your
business, totally cool. You can still have that conversation. You can say, “Hey,
look, I just wanted to check with you. What are your goals? What would you like
to get out of this business?” And if they say, “Well, I would like to make 5000
a month.” You can then say, “Hey, look, I mean, I appreciate that. That's
amazing. But with the amount of time and the amount of work you're putting in
right now, you do know that that's not going to happen, you understand that?” And
you get that reality check with them. And very often that will cause them to
either start working or say, “Yeah, right now maybe it's not the right time for
me or whatever.” And either way, at least you know where you're standing with
that person.
