What to do when something BAD happens in your business?
I want to talk about what to do when something bad happens in your business.
Now, if you are committed, if you are serious about doing this, becoming an entrepreneur
and building your own business, then you're going to be doing it for the next
10, 20, 30 years. Now, if you're going to be doing it for the next 10, 20, 30
years, it's not if something bad will happen in your business, it's when
something bad will happen in your business. It’s like, unavoidable. It will
happen. Like it's Murphy's Law, it says, “Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong.”
So in your business too, there's no exception. At some point, some things will
happen.
Sometimes
a big leader leaves your business, goes to another company or quits the
business altogether. Sometimes there's challenges with products, sometimes the
whole company shuts down and you have to go to another company, start a new
business, sometimes your motivation comes down, and things like that. Things
will happen, but the question is, what to do when something bad happens? Let's
say a big leader leaves the business and a lot of your business disappears. I
actually had a leader call me the other day and said, “Look, one of my big
leaders got suspended in the business.” Which means I just lost a huge part of
my business. What should I do?
And
obviously, I said to them, “Yeah, do what you can in terms of helping out that
person.” Maybe there's a way to speak to the company for them to ease off, maybe
allow them to come back in. But in that case, that was not possible because
that person was like, not the first time they did something wrong. So they got banned.
So I said, “Well, what's the next best thing to do?”
Well, the next best thing
to do is to get to work. Like there's no point for you to go, “Oh my gosh. How horrible
it is. Oh, what am I going to do?” Crying about it, worrying about it, being
upset about it or sad face about it isn’t going to change anything. It’s not
going to help you. Will it? Like crying about it or complaining about it, is
that going to help you? Definitely not.
The
best thing to do if somebody leaves your business, if something goes down, if
something happens in your business that puts your business down, the best thing
to do is roll up your sleeves and go to work and make that month record
breaking month in your business. Say, “Okay, I just lost a big leader, what do
I need to do? I need to go down and recruit another 20 people, I need to go and
recruit another 30 people to compensate for that loss, to make up for that
loss.” That's already loss. That's already gone. There's nothing I can do about
what's gone. What I can do is do what I can do.
So maybe I can go start
recruiting, maybe I can go start selling, maybe I can go and do something break
records, make my best month ever in terms of recruitment. That's the best way
to act if something happens badly in your business, because this way then you’re
improving the results. There's no point of crying about it and worrying about
it. That’s never going to help you in your business. So that should be your
mindset to not if when this happens to you, remember, no point to be sad face
about it, go to work.
