Firstly, because of Law of attraction. If you have never heard of the law of attraction I would highly recommend you to watch the movie "Secret". But long story short, what you focus on grows in your life. Therefore, if you are constantly focusing on negative things in your life then you will attract even more negative things in your life. However, when you shift your focus on all the positive things around you, you will start attracting more of the positive stuff in your life.
Also, what you measure improves! So if you have any area in your life that you are not getting the results you would like to, be it money, weight, relationships etc, start measuring it constantly and you will very quickly start seeing improvement in that area.
Your subconscious mind is like a 4 year old child, it wants to please you but it doesn't know what is good for you and what is not. Therefore, if you keep focusing on all the negative things around you then your subconscious mind will assume that this is what you like and want more in your life and will make sure you have plenty of it.
Furthermore, many people are constantly sending confusing messages to the universe and their subconscious. They say they want to achieve high levels of success but then they are lazy to do anything. They want to build a huge team but they are afraid to talk to anyone about their business opportunity and so on.
Finally, when it comes to being positive one of the BIG things is not talking negatively about other people. Even if somebody for sure done something bad it is very important for you not to get into criticising them because again by doing so you are only attracting more people like this to your life. Instead, focus on the good in other people and you will start attracting more people like that.
So my advise for you is to go on a "Positive mental diet" for the next 21 days. Do not talk negative, think negative and do not consume negative content like tv news, radio news or newspapers. You will see how your life will start changing rapidly.
And if you want to take it a step further, start your gratitude journal, start writing every morning and every evening at least a couple of things you are grateful for that day.
