The power of COMMITMENT

Posted by Gediminas Grinevicius on Saturday, March 16, 2019 Under: Personal Development

Today I wanted to talk about the power of commitment. I went to church yesterday. And I saw a quote on the newsletter. I absolutely loved it. It said, “May your struggles be as short as your New Year's resolutions.” So a lot of people make decisions too easily, “Oh, I’ve got to do that, I’ll come into that.” And then Few days later, they already quit, they already given up. So that's why I wanted to talk to you about the power of commitment. And guess what? I wasn't the person before who was very committed. I used to do something, give up, try something, give up. I was never the committed person and I always would keep asking, “Well, why things are not happening for me. Why am I not getting results?” So I would keep questioning, “Why am I not achieving results? Why am I not achieving success?”

And one of those reasons was because I was not committed, because I didn't have the commitment, I would find an excuse. One of my mentors used to say, “If you look for excuse, you find one you like.” So there's always a way to wiggle yourself out of commitments if you keep looking for excuses, but then I understood that commitment is power. When you commit to something, then you make it happen, then you do it. So last year in April, we went to Las Vegas to an event called “the most powerful women in network marketing” and it was incredible event. We've learned loads, we saw amazing women who achieve success, etc. And then they announced that there's going to be the event called “GoPro” in December, even bigger event with over 10,000 people. And I was sitting there thinking, well, I definitely would love to attend the event in December but what can I do to make sure I attend and I knew as soon as I'll get back to UK, I'll find excuses, I'll get too busy, maybe there's no money for it, whatever. I'll find an excuse not to go. So you know what, we went back to the hotel room after the event and before we flew back from Las Vegas to UK, I went and booked the hotel and I booked the flight tickets for December.

Now I was committed, because I've put my money where my mouth is. I’ve put the action where my mouth is. So I wasn't just saying that, “Hey, I’d love to do that. I'd love to attend that event.” But I put the money there. Now I'm committed. Now I have to go because I bought the tickets. So that was the commitment. So obviously, then I had to build the business. So we had to do it. We had to build the business. We had to do whatever it takes to go to the event in December. And then this last December, we went to Las Vegas again, for the GoPro with over 10,000 people. And again, I was sitting there thinking, wow, if only my team would be here. If only my leaders would be here, feeling what I feel, seeing what I see, it'd be so powerful, it would explode the business.

I thought if only they were there but guess what, I have been at events before when I would say the same thing. I would be sitting at the conference and go, “Oh my gosh, if only my team members here.” I would be sitting at another training and go, “Oh my gosh, if only my team members were here.” So again, I thought how can I commit? How can I make sure that I will be promoting this event for the next year for the next 12 months? How can I ensure that I will bring my team members, you know what I did, I just went and bought 10 tickets for this years GoPro in December. I spent two and a half thousand dollars because it was a good deal, but I bought those 10 tickets which means I spent 2000 pounds, guess what, now I'm committed. Now I have to make it happen. Now I have to bring those team members.

So now I was committed and I am committed because now I'm building my millionaires in training. I'm helping people to earn the money so they can come with me to Las Vegas in December because I was committed. Some of you this morning you’ve had eggs and bacon for breakfast. Now for your breakfast eggs and bacon for breakfast, chicken was involved but the pig was committed. Do you get it, do you understand? So it's really, really important to commit to yourself whatever you want to achieve because if you want to get to that rank, if you want to get to that income, if you want to achieve something you have to commit, you have to do something that commits you to achieving that result. In old days, when they used to conquer the island, they would arrive with the boats and they would set the boats on fire. Why? Because then they will either conquer the island or they will die trying but there is no going back. There's no retreat, there's no running away. It's done. It's made, the decision is made.

That's power, that's commitment. So you have to understand the power of commitment, because unless you really commit to your goals, unless you really commit to your wife, unless you really commit to your dreams, they're not going to happen. It's just going to be another year, you're going to be a carbon copy of 2018. Why again, you just go through the motions, you just go with the flow and nothing changes in your life and nothing happens in your life and again next December, you'll be sitting there saying, “Why is my life not changing? Why am I not getting better results, etc.” Because you're not committing, I like the word decide and very often people use it very lightly.

Decide, I like that word because it has a very interesting ending, -cide. What other words are similar to decide? Homicide, suicide, genocide, what does the -cide mean? Cide means death of something. So when you decide - your past is dead, your previous mistakes are dead, your previous excuses are dead. Now, you're changing something in your life. Now, you made a decision to do something different. Now, you made a decision to reach that goal. Now you made a decision to reach that ambition of yours. Now, you made a decision to support your family better. Now, you made a decision to give your kids a better life. It changes everything. So don't use it lightly. Don't ever go, “Oh, I’ve decided to do that.” And three days later, you're already out of it. That's not a decision, that's not a commitment. So if you understand the power of commitment, you'll see how it's going to start changing your life. Commit for your health, commit for your business, commit for your work, commit for your fitness or whatever it is, but really commit. Don't just do the hockey pokey, one foot in and one foot out, don't do that because that's just going to mess you about, that sends the wrong signal to the universe, to God or whatever you believe and you're not going to get the results you want to get.
