I want to talk about the moving goalposts. So, the topic today is the moving
goalpost. And it's a phenomenon that a lot of people suffer from.
A lot of people suffer from this and it's basically chasing something all of your life in order to be in a certain state for example, in order to be happy, in order to be satisfied, so, first you have to go to school, get good grades so you can get into university, then you get into university, study hard so you can get into a job, then you're going to be happy, then you get into a job, work really hard, so maybe you can get a promotion, then you're going to be happy, then do this and maybe you can buy a house and maybe then you can be happy and then you need to get married, then you'll be happy.
And then when you get married, then you need to get kids. The problem with that is if you keep moving the goalpost or more often, if you allow other people and society and whatever, move the goalposts in front of you further and further along with the hope that one day when you get there you'll be happy, it becomes incredibly difficult and you’re like never satisfied because you’re always chasing this moving goalpost. So, the mistake that many people make or the erroneous way of thinking is that when I make a lot of money, I'll become happy. And now I have to just wait for that. But that's not the way it works.
You will make a lot of money when you become happy. So it's not that you’ll have to wait until you make a lot of money to become happy. You have to become happy in order to make a lot of money. Do you get what I'm saying? So the key here is to enjoy the journey because if you’re always moving the goalposts, if you always go; when I started out in this much, then I'm going to be happy. When I get to this level, I'm going to be happy, when I get this thing, I'm going to be happy then you’re never happy, bloody hell. That's a difficult life. It sucks, you know what I mean? But if you start enjoying the things that you already have. If you start practicing gratitude, and enjoying things you already have in your life, then that's pretty cool. That makes you happy already.
And if you actually enjoy the journey of getting to that pay cheque, of getting to that rank, of getting to that level in business, of getting to that income of getting to that promotion, then it's 10 times more enjoyable, because, you’re just, “Oh my gosh, I'm grinding in order to get to that thing. But actually I’m enjoying the process. I'm loving talking to people, building the business, training my guys, sharing information with them. I'm enjoying looking into my back office and seeing more things happening.” You know what I mean? Instead of just like, I'll be happy when this happens, but now it just sucks. You know what I mean?
So that's the moving goalpost. So my best advice for you is to start practicing gratitude every single day. So think of what am i grateful for today, what can I be grateful about, and there's so many things you can be grateful about. And gratitude is one of the most powerful emotions. Because when you're feeling gratitude, you can't be jealous at the same time. If you're grateful, you can't be angry at the same time, if you’re grateful you can't be sad or depressed at the same time. So it actually overpowers all the other emotions. And it allows you to really think about all the things that you already have because you know how the universe works. You know how the law of attraction works.
Whatever you think about, it's what you attract. So if you keep thinking about all the bad things about all the things that you don't have, then you just attract more of the same. But if you start being grateful for the things that you have, then you attract even more things like that. So it's really, really powerful. So practice gratitude, and start enjoying the journey. Ask yourself a question every day, how can we get this new lead in my business and enjoy the process? How can I make more sales in my business and enjoy the process, how can I train my team and enjoy the process? You know what I mean? And always add that and enjoy the process so that whatever you do you find ways to actually enjoy what it is that you do. It's a lot more interesting. It's a lot better, you know, to do that way, I think at least you know, I don't know what you think.
