The MONEY MAKING SKILL in Network Marketing
Today
I wanted to talk about the money making skill in network marketing. So what is
the money making skill in network marketing?
Well, the money making skill in
network marketing is follow up. So the money making skill in network marketing
is follow up. That's why they say that the money is in the follow up. It's a
super important skill because a lot of network marketers unfortunately, they
drop the ball at this point on this skill.
What do I mean by that is that a lot
of network marketers get into a habit of reaching out to people, of messaging
people, of prospecting people, of collecting numbers, and so on and so on, but
one of the things that very few people are consistently good at is follow up,
is reaching back out to those people.
The misconception that many people
have is they say, “Well, if I send the video out, if I send the information out
to this person, if they are serious person, should they not just get back to me
once they watch the presentation, should they not just get back to me and say,
hey, I watched your video. Great idea, I want to join your business? Would that
not be common sense? Would that not be normal thing to do?” And in ideal world,
yeah, it'd be perfect. It'd be awesome if people did that, but what you have to
understand that you are busy person and so are other people, the person that
you prospected and you said, “Hey, would you be open to take a look at my
business and if no, no big deal?” And that person says, “Yeah, absolutely.”
Because they need money, they need an extra income, they need your business. So
you go “Great, here's the video.” And you send them the video, but what you’re
not taking into account that within the next three hours after you send them a
video, they got 15 notifications on Facebook, 20 on Instagram, 10 Skype calls,
five WhatsApp messages, the kids are screaming, the wife is ringing, the
husband is calling, the boiler broke down, the car is playing up and million
things are happening in their life. And they forgot about you.
They
need your business. They need the money. Maybe they even watched the video and
they thought, “Wow, what a great idea.” But then another million things happen
and they don't get back to you and they don't reach out to you, they don't call
you, they don't message you and you think, “Ah, another time waster, another
not serious person.” But it isn't. That person might be super serious but just
life gets in the way.
And that's where follow up comes in, that's where you
reach back out to them and go, “Hey, did you had a chance to watch the video?”
So one thing before you ever send any information out, before you send the
video to a person, what you should do is ask them a question. Go, “I have a
great video that explains how our business works. How soon could you watch it?”
Why do you ask the question? Because some of you might be thinking, “Oh, it’s
just a waste of time, they told me they’re open, they told me they want to hear
about the business? Should I not just send them the video?” That's a mistake
because if you straightaway send the video, now you don't know when they're
going to watch it, but if you ask the person before you send the video, if you
ask them, “How soon can you watch it?” And they say, “Right away.” Then you
know that in 15 minutes, 20 minutes, you can message them again saying, “Hey,
how was the video?”
If the person says, “I'll watch it tonight.” Then you take
your diary, write down, reach out tomorrow to john, if they say over this
weekend, then you take your diary, put on Monday, call Mary. So now you know when
to follow up, but then guess what, if you reach back out to them, and you go,
“Hey, Günter, did you watch the video?” And she goes, “No man, I was totally
busy so I completely forgot.” You go, “Great. No problem. When do you think you
will watch it?” “Well, I'll watch it tonight.” “Great. I'll message you
tomorrow again.” And you follow up, follow up, and follow up, follow up until
they buy or die. That's what Tom Hopkins used to train.
So
what does that mean? A few days ago I did a video about the different is better
than better? What does that mean? You need to stand out from the crowd. You
need to stand out from all the network marketers. And guess what most network
marketers do. They just send, send, send, send, send, send, send, send
information, but they never follow up with people.
So when you reach out to
this person four, five, six, seven, eight times, they’re going to go, “Oh my
god, that person is committed. That person is persistent; they are different
from everybody else that ever reached out to me. This person is not giving up
on me; this person will keep messaging me until I get back to them.”
That is so rare because most people, they are too quick to give
up, they’re too quick to throw in the towel, they’re too quick just to go, “Ah,
that person is a time waster.” And I know stories in our own company of people
who joined third time, fourth time the business, which means they joined, quit,
joined, quit, joined, quit and joined on the third or the fourth time, and now
making thousands of pounds every single month. Imagine if their sponsor said,
“Ah, that person is a waste of time, no point building relationship with this
person, no point keeping in touch with them, because they didn't do anything
anyway.”
It would have been a mistake. Now they're in the business and they’re
doing loads. So you have to understand that almost everybody will join your
business, if you just keep in touch with them long enough, until they're ready,
until the arrow is at 12 o'clock. Because some people you reach out to now
they're 10 o'clock, they're not ready yet. Some people you reach out to,
they’re already at two o'clock, they already joined another business or already
whatever.
So you need to keep reaching out to people until they're ready. And
almost everybody will be ready. Almost everybody you can find an angle to
recruit them, if you only follow up enough with them. But most people don't do
that. Most people give up too quickly and that's how they lose. And guess what,
if you reach out to somebody and go, “Hey, would you be open to take a look at
my home based business?” And they go, “Yeah,” well, you send them a video, they
watch the video, but you never reach out to them again, hoping that they will
get back to you, which is almost never going to happen.
Guess what? They won't
reach out to you but then if next three months go by, or next six months go by,
somebody else will introduce them to another business and they will join that
business, they won’t join yours because you just didn't follow up with them.
I've recruited people who said, “Yeah, somebody reached out to me previously
about this business, but they just they just disappeared, they never came back
to me,” or I've recruited people who said, “Well, somebody sold me this product
before, but they never told me there's a business side to it.”
So somebody has left the money on the table, somebody has left this
recruit, when they could have recruited them. I've actually had a presentation
where people came in and sat down at the presentation and then they look at
each other go, “What are you doing here?” and it's like cousins, and each of
them never bothered to introduce their business to each other because each of
them thought, “Oh, they wouldn't be interested.” So I know that's not follow
up. But that's more about not prejudging. But it's just about making sure you
do the follow up. If you do the follow up you will be surprised how much more
business you will gain, how many more people you will recruit, how many more
people you'll sell products to, how many more people will come back into your
business if you just keep following up with that person.
So many people don't
do that. And I see top leaders who are always doing it, this is somebody pop up
on Facebook, they'll go and message them, “Hey, how you doing, how's life, you
know, been ages.” They see that person pop up on Skype, they go and message
them. They always keep in touch with people until they're ready. Because it's
just a matter of time, if somebody has been exposed to the idea of passive
income, to the idea of building their own business, there's no way they're
going to go back to work for
That's prospects, but also same applies to
your team members. So again, when you recruit somebody, it is your job to
follow up with them. So it's not just you sign somebody up and that's it. You
just leave them alone and hope all the best for them. No, you follow up with
them, “Hey, how are you doing? It's been a few days. Do you have any questions?
Have you tried any products? Hey it’s been so many days? How are you doing? How
are you getting on? Do you have any challenges? Do you want any help?” You keep
follow up, follow up, follow up, follow up, and follow up until that person is
ready to rock and roll, until that person is ready to take the business to the
next level. Because otherwise, you'll just be sending, sending, sending,
sending, sending, sending messages calling, calling, calling new people all the
time and you'll go, “ Oh my Gosh, where else can I find these new people?” Because
you’re burning through them so fast, and you're not following up, so it's like
having a bucket with a huge hole in the bottom.
It doesn't matter how much you
pour into it, everything just runs out, straight away. So you don't have
anything in the bucket because everything is just running away. Why? Because
you’re n ot following up. You can look for new people all the time but if you
don't follow up, oh my Gosh, you're losing most of your business, if you're not
following up with those people saying, “Hey, have you had a chance to watch the
video? Hey, what did you like the best from that video?” and so on and so on.
Follow up is extremely important skill. Some people
ask me, they say, “Well, I need to prove on my closing,” and I go, “You don't
need to improve on your closing, you need to improve on your follow up.”
Because if you do your follow up properly, if you reach back out to the person
again and again and again, guess what? The sale is going to happen anyway, the
person is going to join your business anyway. You won't need any hard-core
sales pressure techniques on that person because you just kept in touch until
that person is ready.
You won’t need any manipulation, you won’t need any hard-core
stuff. It's going to be a natural flow of your follow up because when you're
following up with somebody, it's natural for them to join your business, because
once they respond to you go, “Hey, what did you like the best from the video? I
like all of those things. And you just say, “Hey, sounds like you're ready to join.”
And that's it. And they go, “Yeah, so you don't need any super-duper closing
techniques. You just need to follow up with people.
