How to Overcome the FEAR OF REJECTION

Today I want to talk about rejection. How to overcome rejection, how to defeat rejection, because so many people are scared of rejection, they are super scared. They think that they're going to lose, they're going to get mortally wounded if they get rejection from somebody. So I could tell you, Oh you need to read 15 five books, you need to attend so many courses but actually, the only way to overcome rejection is to experience more rejection.

That’s the only way to overcome it. So if you want to get better at talking to people and getting the no, then you need to practice more of it. So go to the car boot sales or the flea markets or whatever and pick a table with maybe stuff for 20 pounds in it and approach it and say, “Well, I'll give you two pounds for the lot.” And of course what will they say, they’ll say, “No.” So then you’ll go, “Well I'll give you 250.” And negotiate with them and get the no’s, get the no’s, no I'm not going to do that. Well, what if I do this, no, I'm not going to do, what if, and practice, if you're a single guy or a girl invite other guys and girls on the date and again not everybody going to say yes or ask for the number so that you experience more rejection and you become desensitized to it. So you become okay with getting the rejection, you become okay with getting the no and that's why I really like the approach of go for no.

I've been reading this go for no book because I read the original one but this one is also with Ray Higdon. So it's go for no for network marketing and they talk about the approach of actually aiming for the no. So instead of you waking up in the morning and saying, “Okay, I'm going to try and recruit somebody today, which means I'm going to try and get a yes. Or I'm going to try and sell a product today, which again, means I'm going to try and get a yes.” Why not wake up this morning and say, “You know what, I'm going to get five people to say no to me today.” So my goal is not to get a yes, not to recruit somebody, not to sell to somebody but for five people say, “No, I'm not interested, no, I’m not going to take a look, no for me.” Or 10 people or 20 people or whatever your goal is, but you then become addicted to the no. So when the yes happens is just like a by-product, but you’re going for the no.

So they did actually this scientific experiment where they tested it on a sales or on insurance sales company and this insurance sales company used to go door to door knocking on people's doors and say, “Would you like to learn more about getting a home insurance?" They will try basically to sell insurance and of course, the sales people would be scared like there's no end to it of rejection. So instead, what they made them do, they made them go knock on the door and as soon as somebody opens to go for no. So to say, “You wouldn't like any home insurance, would you?” Guess what, most people would go, “No I wouldn't.” So actually 59 out of 60 people would say, no, but one family would go, “Well, actually, we are looking for a home insurance. Actually, I would be interested.”

But the point wasn't about conversions, wasn't about increasing conversion, it was about increasing or speeding up the process of sorting through people. So instead of trying to convince people, instead of trying to trick people, instead of trying to manipulate people, all they said, we're just knocking on the door, somebody opens it up, “You wouldn't like to get any home insurance, would you?” “No.” “Okay, have a great day.” Next, “You wouldn't like to get any home insurance, would you?” “Oh, actually, we would.” “You would? Okay.” You know what I mean? So, that was the strategy to go for no.

If you truly decide to actually go for no, one of the things that you need to be doing is counting the no’s because it's again, it's very, very powerful. so there's different ways how you can get one of those clickers, or you can write them down but one of the old, old ways and it still works today of counting no’s is actually carrying like something in your pocket, like, for example, marbles or few Penny coins or whatever and every time you get a no, you take a penny from one pocket, and you put it into another pocket.

So let's say you have 10 pennies in your pocket, every time you approach somebody, every time you ask somebody, “Hey, would you take a look?” And they go, “No, I'm not interested.” You take it, you put it in the other pocket. So what that does, it makes you count them because again, the more you count, the more you track the numbers, the better you become, the more you actually do it. So that's what my advice for today. If you want to overcome the fear of rejection, just go for no, just go and experience more of rejection because there's no other way of becoming okay.

Like people in call
centers who call and calling people, they do like 400 calls a day, that's how they became totally cool with people not buying anything from them, with people say no. They just keep doing it. Phone call, after phone call, after phone call. Now I'm not saying the USA Network Marketers should be doing 400 calls a day although it would be amazing and you would get incredible results but just go for no, make a decision not to go for yes, not to be addicted to people joining your business, not to be addicted to people buying your product and instead just go for no, just say, “Okay, you know what, I'm going to get 20 people a day to say no to me, to say no, I'm not interested.”

Whether it's through social media, whether it’s face to face, whether it's through text message or whatever, but just go for no and keep track of it and then every time when your goal is to get 20 no’s, guess what, every time somebody says no to you, you’re not going to go, “Oh, poor me.” You go, “Yes, another one.” So you take another one, you take another one, so then you’re actually looking forward to people say no but I'll tell you a secret. The secret is that most of the time, you're not going to be able to get the 20 no’s because somebody will say yes to you and that's the key really.
