How to deal with HATERS in Network Marketing?
Today I wanted to talk about what to do with haters in network marketing, so you'll get general sort of haters. When you start doing your lives, when you start doing your posts or your advertising in groups and things like that, you'll get general haters who just hate on everything. So it's okay. Don't worry too much about it. I'm not going to get into it and to be honest with you, a lot of people go, “Oh, I don't want to get haters. I don't want to get people saying bad things in the comments and whatever.” But if you don't want to get haters, if you don't want people to criticise you, then I'll tell you what you need to do. You need to do nothing, say nothing and be nothing. That's what you need to do if you don't want to get haters do nothing, say nothing and be nothing.
Most of you who are watching this, you're probably not going to want to do that. I hope you're not going to want to do that. So if you start saying things, if you start doing things, if you start going live, if you start posting on social media, then chances are you'll come across an odd hater. So it's important to understand that it's inevitable but when it comes to network marketing haters, it's slightly different. It's slightly different because you need to know how to deal with them in a professional way and you need to understand why do they come to you. Why do they say the things that they say?
So network marketing, you'll have two main groups of the haters. The first group of haters that you'll have in network marketing is unfortunately, people who had a bad experience with network marketing. And unfortunately, it happens. It used to happen a lot in the past but hey, it still happens even up to nowadays. So whenever new things starts, it's always a bit like a wild west and there's good companies, and then there's not so good companies, there's good leaders, and then there's not so good leaders. So some of the companies especially in the early days of network marketing, used to appear today, get a lot of people, invest the money buy products, and then they close down tomorrow, you’re going to open up again another one, sell out or whatever and they owe a lot of commissions and they close down again, which caused a lot of bad reputation for network marketing and then also there were leaders who were unethical, there would be people promoting saying, “Hey, join my business, you'll make a million tomorrow, you don't need to do anything. Money just comes and it’s great and whatever just pay 5000.” You know what I'm talking about. And a lot of that stuff has caused bad reputation for network marketing.
So there's been a lot of bad stuff, people might have had bad experience. So whenever I get somebody who has a resistance against network marketing, or who hate network marketing, first thing I ask, I say, “Hey, did you or anyone you know had a bad experience?” I want to dig deeper, I want to find out what happened there. Maybe it was them, maybe it was somebody they know and I want to find out what was the problem, what was the challenge? What’s the pain, how were they mistreated? And a lot of the times it will be things that, for whatever reason, they had some bad experience. So I want to find out and nine times out of 10, it's not going to be the business, it's not going to be the network marketing fault. Very often it’s the people who were unethical, or they promise things that they shouldn't have promised, they might have not got any support, they might have not got any training. Sometimes in rare cases, maybe the company has gone under, going out of business, and that happens sometimes, too.
Most of the time, it's not network marketing itself that they are against it just they are against getting burnt again, or losing the money again, or not getting support again etc. So here is how I deal with that, if somebody says, “Hey look, I tried network marketing, they recruited me, I bought some products, but then nobody supported me, nobody answered any questions, nobody helped me out and I never got any results and that's why I left. So I would ask that person, “Hey look, I understand that and I'm sorry to hear that happen to you but if you joined another network marketing company, and you did get support and you did get a leader who looked after you and taught you and trained you and supported you throughout the process, would you give network marketing another chance?” And guess what they will say, a lot of people will go, “Yeah, I'd give it another chance.” Why? Because Les Brown says, once your mind expands, it can never go back to its original dimension. Once somebody learns about network marketing, and the potential of passive income, residual income and the leverage, there's no freaking way they can go back to work and work for 10 pounds an hour and be happy doing that for the rest of their life. There's just no chance but they just need another opportunity that is fair, that will fulfil their needs, that will help them out. So that's first type of haters. People who had bad experience with network marketing, people who've burned, maybe they lost money, maybe whatever. So that's the first group of people. So that's one.
The second group of people who hate network marketing are people who have not been educated. So they actually don't know what network marketing is, and they don't really understand how it works. However, they've heard a rumour there and they heard a rumour there and they hear some here-say. And they just go by that and they hate network marketing, they will come across like, “Oh, is that, one of those pyramids, or whatever.” But mainly not because they're bad people or whatever, it's just because they're ignorant. They haven’t been being educated. If I don't know anything about commercial law, and I was watching a live about commercial law and I started commenting, most of my comments would be nonsensical because I don't understand anything about commercial law. So that's why I'm not a very qualified person to comment. So that's why a lot of people, you'll find most people who hate network marketing, one; they've never had a business of their own, they've been working all of the life of somebody else and they really don't understand how our industry works, how our business works, etc. So they just haven't been educated. And with those people, again, like somebody at network marketing get very upset if somebody goes, “Is this one of those pyramid business?” And they go, “How dare you, your workplace is a pyramid, pyramids are in Egypt.” They get all upset for nothing, simply, that person doesn't even understand the difference between what is a pyramid business, which is illegal and what is network marketing business which is totally legal and it works, but because they haven't been educated and if you as a network marketer attack them and you go, “You stupid idiot.” You just cause more damage, you just cause more of the stigma, you just put fuel to the fire. So they hate network marketing even more, because now you left them feeling bad.
So whenever you get those type of questions, is this even legal? Is this a pyramid, is this whatever? I just go, “Ah, bless you. What do you mean when you say a pyramid?” And they go, “Ah, is this one of those...?” And they will actually describe network marketing. And I go, “Well, you're describing network marketing, but using the wrong term because pyramids are illegal and I would never do something that is illegal, let alone offer you something that is illegal. This is called actually network marketing. It's a home based business, it’s a lowest risk, lowest overhead, chance for ordinary person to get into their own business without having to invest in offices, without having to hire people, without having to hire warehouses, etc. A business that somebody can start from home with very little or no money at all and they can become very, very successful and build a business that can pay me huge income from network marketing.” So that's really how I would handle that because simply they haven't been educated, so I wouldn't get angry at them. I wouldn't start fighting them. I would just try to explain and educate because again part of our role as professional network marketers is to educate people so they can understand what is our business about, how it works, how it does work and what it isn't so they really understand what it is all about.
