Don’t sacrifice LONG TERM for SHORT TERM
I want to talk about long term and short term
decisions. This topic is don't sacrifice long term for short term.
You see,
one of my mentors always used to say that every decision you make in your
business is a long term decision; even the decisions that look like they are
short term. So sometimes you see an opportunity, maybe an opportunity to take
advantage of something, maybe to make quick money, maybe to do something
unethical, maybe to do something that is not totally good, right?
But you think I, you know what, I'll just do this
once I just do this for now to make some money, but later, I'll do everything
properly, right? But it doesn't work that way my friends, whatever you do short
term will impact your business long term. And right is right, even if nobody's
doing it and wrong is wrong, even if everybody's doing it and even if nobody
sees you, you see you and you know what you're doing.
Even if you had short
term decisions, it will eventually impact on your ethics, it will impact on your
values, it will impact on how you feel, doing what you're doing and you know,
the reason why most people come into doing home based business is to feel good,
is to have a way of doing things where you feel strong, where you feel
positive, where you feel good.
If you’re doing practices that are unethical, that
are not good, that are a bit shady, then how does that make you feel? How do
you sleep? How do you live with yourself? It's not nice, you know what I mean?
So, you know that saying that means justify the ends, it doesn't really work
that way. Even if you do things that are unethical to achieve big result, it
will not feel right, you will not feel as good as if you’d done it in a proper
way. So whatever decisions you're always making, understand that it's long term
decisions.
So if you can make a decision when you're making a decision, think, “Okay,
how is that going to impact my business?” Because one of the stories I heard
from a guy that we learned in America, he said, “Look when I built my company,
my vision or my motto for the company was to be in the business for 1000
years.”
Imagine if you were building a business not to make
money today, not to get as much today. But if you were building a business that
would last 1000 years, would you do things differently? Would you treat your
business in a different way? Would you treat people in a different way? Would
you build your business on a different structure if you wanted to build it for
1000 years? You know what I mean? And that's what it's all about.
When you building business for long term, then
you're not scared of crisis, you're not scared of recession; you're not scared
of uncertainty, you're not scared of troubling times, because your business is
built to last. Whereas when you're doing it with short term decisions, when
you're doing all sorts of dodgy and shady things, then it's good for today.
Very often, you can make a lot of money today maybe scamming some people, maybe
fooling some people there and there, but eventually it bites you in the ass. That's
my wish for you guys that you would build a business for long term with a long
term vision and decisions and it will last for a long time and you will feel much
better during your business.
