Don’t make yourself “UNEDIFYABLE”
I
want to talk about edification.
Edification is a big part of network marketing
and a successful home based business because it helps us to gain trust of
people without looking ridiculous and without bragging. It wouldn't really look
good if you and me go to somebody's house to do a presentation or to show them
the business and I talk really well about myself and you talk really well about
yourself, we would just both look like assholes, like just bragging and trying
to look cool, that’s really untasty.
However, if we go to somebody's house, or
we meet somebody, and I talk really good about you, and you talk really good
about me, then it's sort of okay. Nobody gets upset about that. Nobody gets
upset about using compliments about another person and that person saying compliments
about you.
Edification
can really help you to gain trust, to make sales, to build your team, etcetera,
which is awesome. And we have something in network marketing that we call
edification triangle. So you are the leader, and then you have a team member
who's maybe brand new, and let's say they have a friend that they want to
invite into the business; so this becomes like a triangle to where their friend
trusts them, but doesn't really respect them, because they know them so well. They
respect you, but they don't trust you, because they don't really know you, but
they respect you as a stranger, as a leader; and between you and your team
member is the edification.
That's where you three of you meet up and your team
member talks really highly of you, then the person starts trusting you as their
friend, you do the presentation, they get interested in the business and at the
end of the presentation, you edify back your team member and say how amazing
leader they are, and how lucky this person is to join their team and the
edification really works to where it helps that person make a decision to join
the business.
However,
the title of this blog post today is don't make yourself unedifyable. Now, of
course, your team members will be edifying you, but one of the worst things you
can do is do things that will make you unedifyable, that will make your team
members lose respect of you; and that’s really tough. If you lose respect of
your team, it's really hard to get them to edify you, to get them to respect
you back and there are many things that we can do to do that. Like, one of the
things is, when you have company parties, and you have company trips, is like
drinking too much as a leader. I have to admit, I've made that mistake and when
you drink too much, it's hard for your team members that respect you when they
see you not in your top condition. That's something to look out look out for,
or maybe, for example, spreading rumours, or talking behind people's backs,
again, that sort of thing reduces your reputation, or your social media.
Sometimes,
especially women, they want to look like really serious business women, they
want people to respect them as a serious business woman, and then you go on
their social media, and you see pictures on social media that show them half
naked; wearing bikinis that are made too floss. And again, I'm not saying
they’re wrong.
But again, if the something that you're putting on your social
media that reduces your respectability, then it will be harder for your team
members to edify, you will be harder for your team members to respect you. Or
if you talk about the taboo topics, like politics, religion, and things like
that, because, again, everybody has their own opinions, if you start talking
about things, especially if you show that you're not very politically correct,
if you attack other races or other religions or other views, then it might be detrimental
to your reputation, and it might reduce your edify ability. It might make you
an unedifyable.
That's
why always bear in mind, once you become a leader, you have to sort of, carry
the role and keep that respect because they say, whether you like me or not,
that's your decision, but whether you respect me or not is my decision because
I'm in control of doing things that will make you respect me, or that will make
you disrespect me if I do bad things, etcetera. Sometimes people say, “Well,
that's my personal life, if I get drunk, at the company party or after work, it's
not work time, it's my personal time.” But it doesn't really work like that. People
take everything as a whole.
Especially nowadays, with all the social media and
publicity, there is no separation between your work life and your personal
life. Everything is your public life and people see that; so you can’t be super
respectful here and a great leader and then on the other side, do some stuff
that really embarrasses you. You have to really work on it because it takes
years to build your reputation, but it takes a second to lose it. It's better
to think before you do or say something in order to keep your image the way you
want to keep it.
