Don’t talk to STRANGERS!

I want to talk to you about expectations and you not talking to strangers. When we try to build a home based business very often people are quite scared.

Very often when we're trying to build a home based business, a lot of people are terrified of speaking to strangers and talking to people about their home based business. They’re scared of sharing the products with strangers. They’re scared of starting conversations with people and potentially asking them to join the business. Why is that? Why do people feel that way? Why are they scared of talking to strangers about the business?

Well, it’s very, very simple actually because many of us grew up like that. Because guess what, when you were a kid, when you were a little girl or a little boy and you went into the playground or you went into the park, what did your parents tell you? Well, there's a big chance that they told you don't talk to strangers, stranger danger. They can kidnap you, they can do something bad to you. So God forbid, never talk to strangers.

So it actually ingrained in your brain, that there's a danger when you speak to a stranger. That it can be bad consequences if you speak to strangers. And because it's been ingrained in you and drummed into you for so long, when you grow up and decide to join a network marketing business and your sponsor just goes, “Hey, the entire planet is your prospects. Go speak to people.” And you're terrified of doing that, you're terrified of starting conversations, you're terrified of talking to people. Why? Because it's been inbuilt in your head, don't talk to strangers, don't start conversations.

Also, it's about a fear of rejection. And again, the chances are, you have gotten it from very young age, because when you were small, maybe you’re in the kindergarten or maybe you're in a school, maybe primary school, you go speak to a girl or you go speak to a boy, and they laugh at you or they run away from you or they giggle and they don't talk to you or something. You felt awkward. You felt uncomfortable. You felt bad. Like, oh, that's not nice when somebody is not friendly with you.

So because of those experiences again, the chances are you've built up in your head that hey, if I speak to a stranger, there's a chance that they will reject me, there's a chance that they will not talk to me, there's a chance that they will not like me. And because of that, again, we feel that fear of, “Oh my gosh, what if this happens?”

What can you do? If you're feeling that fear, if you have that fear of reaching out to a stranger to start conversations, what could you do? Well, what you could do is start reversing this process by retraining your brain. You see, you remember the few instances maybe, of people rejecting you, or people not liking you or people are not talking to you or not responding in a positive way, but because they are a lot more sharp in your brain because they're a lot more emotional, because you felt bad when that happened.

But for every one that somebody rejected you, for every instance that somebody rejected you, there's 100 instances where people didn't reject you. Like you met people in school, you met people at university, you met people in your new workplaces, and you started conversations with brand new people and they reacted fine. They reacted positively, they were actually quite friendly to you. So all you have to do is start focusing on all the good instances of communicating with people, instead of focusing on the very few that were negative.

So every time when you have an opportunity to speak to a stranger, or to talk to a stranger that could potentially join your business or become your customer, or just to start building a relationship and you feel that fear, you feel the butterflies in your belly, think about 10, 20, 30 instances when you start in a conversation with a stranger and it turned out to be great, when you started conversation with a stranger, and you had an amazing conversation, when you start a conversation with a stranger and you had great time. Think about 10, 20 instances when that happened. And then go and speak to the person because that will alleviate your fear, it will alleviate your procrastination.
