Corporate Ladder or Own Business?

Posted by Gediminas Grinevicius on Thursday, January 9, 2020 Under: Personal Development

I want to talk about corporate ladder versus own business. And I've been reading this very interesting book and I liked the way that the guy who wrote the book put it together.

So if you think about it, in a corporate structure, you have CEO or the owner at the top of the structure, then underneath that you have the directors and the presidents and vice presidents and things like that, then under them, you have your managers, area managers and things like that, then under the managers, you have the supervisors and other people that do those roles and then under them, you have the largest group, which is the worker bees, the normal workers.

If you think about it, if you choose to go the corporate ladder way, if you choose to climb up through the positions, the challenge or the problem is that all the positions are already taken up. There's already somebody in the CEO position, there's already somebody at the director position, there's already somebody at the manager position, there's already somebody at the supervisor position. So for you to progress, somebody either has to quit or leave the company, or somebody has to die, if it's a very good position in order for you to get that job.

So all the positions are already taken up and you have to start at the bottom and climb your way to the very top. So you start as a normal worker, then maybe you become a supervisor if the spot becomes available, then maybe you become a manager if you get lucky, if somebody dies, maybe then you become a director and maybe one day, you get to be a CEO or vice president or whatever. So the challenges that you start at the bottom and all the positions are already taken up.

Now let's look at the business side. What if you decide to build your own business? What if you decide to do network marketing? First of all, you don't start at the bottom. You start at the top and you build your organization. So you start at the top and you build your organization. So you don't have to start at the bottom and more importantly, the spots, the positions are not taken up.

If you want to become a diamond, another person who is a diamond doesn't have to die for you to become a diamond, there can be as many diamonds as you want, there can be as many stars or Jasper stars or amateur stars or whatever levels as you want. There's no limit. Like in a normal company, you can only have one CEO, you're not going to have two, three or five or six CEOs.

There's only one spot at the top, but in the business, you can have as many as you want. There's no limit. It's not limited to that. So think about the difference between doing a traditional corporate ladder going all the way to the top, or starting your own business.
