4 Mistakes In Business
The
title of this blog post is four mistakes in business, that people make. I've been listening to an
audio book by a guy called Grant Cardone and the audio book is called the 10 X
rule, which basically talks about how to 10 times your business, 10 times your
life, and he talks about four mistakes that people make in business
basically and some of them, he made and when I was listening, I could relate
because I made those mistakes too.
Mistake
number one is a lot of people set goals that are too small. So it's sometimes counter-intuitive, because we think that, “Oh, I should set goals that are
realistic, that are attainable." But you see, a lot of people fail in
life not because they set huge goals and they miss them, a lot of people fail
in life because they set goals too small and they hit them. So very often it
will take the same amount of time for you to hit a big goal as it takes to hit
a small goal. So why go for small goal? Why not go for huge goal? So set bigger
goals, like Grant Cardone says, “10 X.” So think about your wildest goal, like
the biggest goal that you can think of and then 10 X it,10 times it because
it's going to take the same amount of time anyway. So why not go for something
huge. So that's mistake number one, setting goals that are too small.
Mistake
number two, that a lot of people make is under estimating the amount of
resources and effort that it's going to take to achieve that goal. So again, a
lot of people set the goal, but they don't think about, they don't imagine what
it's going to take to achieve it, how much work is going to go into achieving
that goal because it's all very well to set huge goals, to set incredible
goals, but if you're not prepared to do the work, if you're not prepared to put
the investment of your time and effort into it, then it's not going to happen,
you're not going to achieve it. So Mistake number two is underestimating amount
of time and resources and effort that is going to go into your goal. So number
one, you need to set a big goal but then number two, you need to think, “Okay,
what is it going to take for me to achieve this goal? How much work is it going
to take?” So that's Mistake number two.
Mistake
number three that a lot of people make in business is too much competing and
not enough really dominating the niche or the industry. So what I mean by that
is a lot of people who get into business, they see what the neighbor is doing,
and they trying to do the same. They're competing against that person, they're
trying to do exactly the same thing as their competitors and they're trying to
always compete for that little bit of business. That's really not the best way
to build a huge business. If you want to build a huge business, you need to
reinvent, you need to challenge the whole industry, you need to be unique, you
need to be different. So don't spend too much time competing.
Like if you're a
network marketer, if you're in a home based business, don't just look what
everybody else is doing on social media and do exactly the same thing. Don't
just look what everybody else is doing face to face and do exactly the same
thing. Why not be different? Why not be unique? Why not revolutionize your
niche, your industry?
So think about things like Uber, things like Airbnb,
things like apple. These companies have transformed those industries, they have
challenged those industries, they didn't just go, “Well, we're going to be
another taxi company, or we're going to be another hotel chain.” No, they did
something differently, they did something uniquely, to stand out and to really
challenge that industry. Most taxi companies didn't expect something like Uber
to come in, most hotel chains didn't expect Airbnb to come in and it really
shook the industry.
Same way you being in network marketing, you being in
home based business, you can think outside of the box. How do I do things
differently from everybody else so that I dominate my niche instead of just
competing against everybody else who's doing exactly the same thing? So that's
mistake number three.
The
last mistake, mistake number four that a lot of people do in business is underestimating
the amount of adversity that they're going to have to deal with in business,
underestimating the amount of adversity that they're going to have to deal with
in business. Guess what, there's going to be challenges, I promise you, it's
not if, but it's when. There’s what they call Murphy's Law. And Murphy's Law
says whatever can go wrong, will go wrong.
Be prepared for that, anticipate
it straight away because if you think that your journey to success is going to
be smooth sailing, oh my gosh, you're in for a treat. So but if you prepare, if
you set your mindset from early on that, “Okay, I will expect challenges, I
will expect difficulties, I will expect things not going to my plan.” Then
you'll be prepared because it might take you 10 times more work, more effort,
more challenges than you expect for you to achieve your goal. So you have to be
prepared for that because a lot of people they underestimate amount of
adversity, they underestimate the amount of challenges that they will have and
then when they have those many challenges, they just quit, they just give up,
they just go, “Oh, this is too difficult for me.” So these are the four
mistakes.
